It's the little things that make me happy.

I bought a kite yesterday and a new pair of jeans.
'A kite!?' you say?  Yes indeed. This is a great departure for me as some of you know. What the heck is she thinking?
I couldn't resist. Really.
I went to Costco yesterday to try and get gas but the station had a tanker there and traffic was horrific. I bypassed the station and went to get a hot dog. (I debated between that and a slice of Supreme pizza but went for the dog.) I then went inside to wander around, you never know what you'll find that you do(n't) need. Well just inside the door, they had the new HD 3D tv screens and there was a demo video showing Avatar scenes. I COULD NOT pass that up and bent over (Why do they make it low enough for a child but an adult has to bend over?) And watched the three scenes... ::sigh:: such an awesome movie in that format!
Okay so, neck got tired and I went on my way, lahdidah... look to my left, there are these 3D kites for sale. Cool... nothing fantastic until one picture on the display boxes caught my eye.
For those that have seen the movie, the big red 'dragon/bird' Toruk that Jake rode? Yeah.
They had it! 6' wingspan! I looked in the ones that were at floor level, nothing. Apparently all of them had been pillaged already. Disappointment... look up to the back stock and there... two of them.. YAY! Quick, look around for badged employee... ah door guy.
Went over and got his attention, told him I wanted something but it was in the backstock above the display. He grabs walkie, calls someone over.... (rather portly employee by the way), he moves the floor display out of the way and ... it is in my hands. It was only 13.99! Jeans and the kite cost me less than $30. The jeans fit perfectly by the way.
Why is this so fantastic?

And smart of them to set that up close to the tv playing scenes from the movie...
I don't have much in the way of geek stuff to show how much I like that movie. I have the Collectors edition with extra extra scenes and stuff, I have the Survival guide, I'm making jewelry that is similar to what was seen in the movie and I'm on a message board and Second Life groups.
So, nothing really physical.
That kite is going out today and get flown over the bay. See how many people stop and watch. There is a prime kite flying spot on some hills in the bay side park area, right near the freeway.
It's something I can hang in my room to look at, bright red and orange symbol of freedom and redemption I suppose.
Not to mention... if you look at it in a certain way.. IT'S A DRAGON!!!
Okay... so my little geek fest is done for now.
I need to do laundry, sewing, move some money around for surgery tomorrow, make transportation arrangements, and then I can take my new toy out and play!

My poor roommate Katie has come down with a sinus infection right now. She's all stuffed up and miserable. I told her she has to stay two arms length away from me and we aren't sharing any utensils. And due to that, I am not going to impose on her to wake up before the sun to drive me to the hospital. Did that once already. I finally got hold of the transportation van for the hospital and arrangements have been made. This means I have to be awake, cognizant and aware of my surroundings between 5 and 5:40 AM. Gaack!  At least I'll have the rest of the day to rest!

Oh, I have a wonderful little connection between my Medical provider (Sharp Health) and Google Health. I can track my vital signs, lab results, and whatever else I want to send over there.  Since it started keeping track as of June of last year, I've only lost maybe ten pounds. I thought it was more. I could have sworn I was closer to mid 180's last year but the records show I was only 175 and, of course, it took a big dip between beginning of January and this last visit. I can track my blood pressure and it calculates my BMI as well.
I love technology! There's probably an app I could put in my ipod to track all that as well.
Oh, and I am not only Ava's hero (granddaughter for those that forgot. I've got the colored page that says so!) I am also the most important person to her. Her class had to write about an important person and she chose me! I don't feel I've done a lot... she spends more time with mom and dad... I feel like I don't deserve it... but to a 6 year old, it's where her focus is I suppose. So I have to be at her school today by 1:30 to see her read her paper. Amber forgot she had a doctor appointment for the twins today at 12:45. So I will also have to take a video of her reading.
Man...if I need an ego boost, all I have to do is go visit her.

Meanwhile, back in the other reality that is going to rule my life for the next four months. It's slowly sinking in. I can't go so far as to imagine that this is a 'roommate', somehow that just doesn't work for me. That's okay, everyone has their own coping mechanisms to deal with this kind of situation. I think mine is my dragon kite. He's not going to go away, he'll always be there when I need him to remind me that trials and tribulations, responsibility and life itself has a cost. But on the other side of the battle, there is freedom.

Which reminds me, need to locate my silver glittery ball.

"I used to have a real me, but I had it surgically removed." - Peter Sellers

That is so funny and sad on so many levels right now! I wouldn't consider my gall bladder or breast the 'real me'....but considering what's coming up, I'll go with that!

(came back and re-read this post and realized there was a few typos and had to add in the part about Ava after I got a call from Amber.)
