My earthquake story.. sort of.

Nothing remarkable happened where I was other than roommate and I went running out of the apartment, forgetting her cat. She felt bad about that, but she's getting over it.
The great story comes from my granddaughters experience.

Dan and Amber were having some friends over for Easter, with a few six packs to go around but they needed to walk up the street to the local market to pick up some sodas leaving their close friend Jon and some other friends with Ava.
The quake hit while they were in the store... Dan is extremely phobic of earthquakes so when they figured out it was a quake they paid for what they bought and ran back home.
Here's what happened while they were gone:
Ava had been wearing her pink princess dress and tiara all day, and was playing in the front room when the quake hit. Jon (after they realized it wasn't a collective head rush from the beer) scooped Ava up and got in the bathroom doorway.
Ava didn't realize what was going on at first then asked in a slightly scared voice, "Was that an earthquake?"
Jon answered, 'Yep, that was an earthquake, we're just going to stand here in the doorway so we're safe.'
Ava: "Wow!v That's the first earthquake ever in America!!!"
Jon: "Actually, they happen a lot."
Ava: "Really!!? Woah!"

So, things calmed down and they went downstairs and met Dan and Amber outside. A little later all the adults were standing around out on the patio smoking and Amber told Ava she had to be up the stairs so she didn't get any smoke to be healthy. Ava still hung around and finally Ava made her way to Amber despite her urging.
Amber asked her what she wanted and in a shy voice she replied, "I need to tell Jon something." Amber told her to wait a little while but Ava seemed persistent so they made their way to where Jon was talking with Dan and some others.
Amber: "What did you want to say Ava?"
Ava: "Jon... I want to thank you for saving my life today."
Jon: "Sweetie, I'm your friend and wanted you to be safe."
Ava: "Thank you for saving my life, it was very nice." (remember that Ava is in her princess dress and tiara)
Amber: (in a serious voice) "Gentlemen, please take your hats off, you are in the presence of a true hero and a true princess."
They all did of course.

I'll get to hear the story directly from Ava tomorrow night when they come over to visit. Dan was so paranoid and freaked out about the earthquake he didn't want Amber driving anywhere. I told her it was okay, calm your husband down, let him drum and have another beer.

Cutest story ever!
