Not shy about my news.

Okay, first step is done... here's the scoop. (I'm writing this down so I don't forget the details)
Good news, the lump is less than 2cm which is one of the best scenarios you can have in this situation. The doctor said it's not likely the surrounding lymph nodes are affected but they err on the side of caution and take out the ones that are connected to that spot.
I could go into more details about where it is, what it's called and all, but will spare everyone. If you want the nitpick details, just call me or ask when I see you next.
After seeing the surgeon today (who is a bit older than me, but upbeat) he had me get a chest x-ray for a complete look at that area. After this, waiting for a call from radiology to schedule an MRI on the area to see what else is happening in the area. After that they can schedule the surgery day. So we're looking at me being out of commission for most of August. Good thing I didn't make any PLANS for August!
One day surgery, done under general anesthesia but it's a one day thing so I go home the same day. (I'll need a ride of course.) I'll be out of work for about three weeks for recuperation, possibly two. No lifting, strenuous stuff. Which is okay by me. I still have a very active brain and can give sarcastic comments and advice till the cows come home.) After the surgery heals, there'll be 6 weeks of daily radiation therapy on the area. The first words after he said that was, 'It won't make you sick, won't make your hair fall out, and won't make you throw up.' GOOD! I'm all for that! In fact he said it's more like a mini-sunburn on the area. I've been sunburned before... probably worse than that will give me.
He said that some women opt for a mastectomy but there isn't any advantage to that. Both options are about equal. Given that choice, I'll take the lumpectomy and the sunburn for the win!
After that... go on with my life. With yearly check ups of course. Maybe every 6 months. That's conjecture on my part. He didn't say anything about that.

Gee.... do I file for short term disability since I won't be able to work? Crap..more paperwork to worry about. This means I may not be able to drive either. Great. What's a small inconvenience compared to the big picture? Not a helluva lot.

Okay..going to get something to eat. Do dishes...as I said.
"Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water."

Expect me when you see me.
And you WILL see me!
