Grrrrr....disaster

Well it had to happen sometime.
I was helping at the nursery dumping some large pond containers so we could get the mosquito fish out and... I leaned over too far ...
ipod fell in the water. Along with a marker and a notepad... I pulled it out as fast as I could and saw that there was a very faint apple symbol on the screen. I hit the on button but nothing happened.
I scrambled to pull off the rubber half casing I keep on it (which saved it the other day when I dropped it on the pavement) and told someone to get paper towels...lots of them. Then I wrapped it in the paper towels, making sure that any button or hole had extra paper next to it and left it in a warm place to dry.
It may  have been too warm. I left it in the sun unfortunately and now the two bottom corners of the screen are white. Katie says it looks like condensation but... I don't think so. All the research I did said to put it in a container of rice for a few days to draw out as much water as possible. I don't think after sitting in the sun for fifteen minutes it has much water left in it but you never know.
I wasn't able to get it into a bucket of rice until I got home several hours later.
This is kind of devastating on my part. It's not just the music, it's my appointment calendar, morning alarm, pill reminder, notepad and music to keep me sane.
::SIGH::
And of course I think it's been a year since I bought it and don't think it would be covered under a warranty anyway. I have a copy of my original receipt from Walmart and have it registered online, but water damage... don't think so.

Katie is looking for a new job without much success since her cell phone service got cut off due to lack of funds to pay off the bill. We're still $100 short on rent, my paycheck at the beginning of next month isn't going to be enough to cover the rent on it's own and she won't have a paycheck to pitch in. Even if she got a job tomorrow it wouldn't come soon enough.
So here we are again... trying to ride out a rough spot and hoping for smooth water on the other side.
I go in to get my port removed tomorrow, shouldn't be a big deal according to several people. Then I need to call the surgeon for reconstruction and set up a time and day for that to happen. I may be back on disability in a month... we'll see what happens. They're going to think I'm trying to scam the system with on and off again disability. Not to mention my insurance company at work not getting the papers on time.
I hate paperwork. Just hate it and of course that showed by me throwing the papers on a pile and forgetting about them until it was past when I was supposed to send them in.

I've set my phone alarm to go off at the appropriate times in the morning so I won't forget to take my pill and vitamin. Also wake me up as well so I don't sleep past when I'm supposed to be up and moving.
This is distressing to me... one of the worst things to happen in a while. Yeah, yeah it's just a piece of technology but everyone who's reading this who has had a piece of technology like that and has lost it or it's been damaged... knows this feeling.
Crossing my fingers this rice trick works and it isn't permanently damaged. Otherwise... no joy in mudville. Speaking of which, I hope none got into the plug hole. I don't know anyone that can open an ipod to clean it for free.
Everyone cross your fingers and do whatever you feel necessary that my 'pod returns to life soon.
Thanks!
(Oh and my hair is growing back... noticing the difference every day now.)
