Weather is cooperating so I'm doing 'spring' gardening. Bills are mostly paid, a few I need to backtrack on but have enough money in the bank leftover to take care of those.
Still waiting for W2 from previous work place, got my 1099G from EDD already and updated income to EBT. Ah the swinging life or a retiree. Right.
We got around to taking down the Christmas garland finally and repacked the ornaments. Next is heading out to storage and putting them away so the front room isn't as crowded. As soon as we get the tax money in (sadly not as much as previous years but it's something) we'll consider shifting storage closer or getting my car serviced. Maintenance required light is on all the time now and it's pushing 200k miles. I suspect that all money will go to getting it in better shape and we can consider more long distance travel hopefully. I really really really want another trip to Disneyland with at least one night in a hotel. I've worked the budget on that and it's getting more and more expensive every year unfortunately. Just one more trip without having to worry about spending too much money and being able to go to a hotel room and rest in the middle of the day. They need to have a 'nap station' at Disneyland. Choose how long you need to take a nap, do you snore or not, how many beds and pay a small 'rental' fee. Other than possible contamination from person to person it's a solid idea I think.
I was able to make a payment on my credit card on time as well thankfully so that will help my credit score which leads me to look at loan options and what we could possibly qualify for now that I have income matching Jon's. I still don't know if my amount will go up next month but according to my letter, Feb 9 it's $1017, I forgot to ask Sheila that question. Still need to figure out how to apply for collecting on Dave's SS since he's 3 years older than me and he earned more than I did the extra money would be very helpful. Every time I go to look for directions it just shows personal and widow.. guess I need to call someone and figure that out.
Other than that, just day to day stuff. Oh for my exercising haven't gone for a walk in a while but still stretching in the morning. Today I count putting ornaments away, sweeping, swiffering and vacuuming as extra exercise. Had to clean out the canister and filter on the vacuum that hasn't been changed since we moved. That was a chore for sure! Also have to clean out Rocky's litter box and that's good arm exercise with some bending down core movements. Luckily the trash strike ended last week so not so bad hauling it down there now. Lately in the evening an hour or two before bed the bedroom smells like someone dumped an ashtray outside. Makes for difficult breathing in good air.
Speaking of that, Jon had mentioned needing to sweep the floors and I agreed, so knowing his lung issues with dust I figured he'd just step outside for a while or in the bedroom or take a shower or whatever while I took care of it. Nope. After he took down the garland and while I was putting the ornaments away he starts sweeping. I didn't think much of it then since I was focused on taking care of my stuff. I then asked him if he could get the vacuum out so I could do that and next thing I know he takes the canister off and start dumping it in the trashcan in the living room! I almost yelled at him to go get his shower I'll take care of that. Immediately took the whole kit and kaboodle out to the porch to clean it out. Then he doesn't know why his chest feels tight and needs to sit on the couch for a bit. Had to remind him of what he just did for the past half hour.
Sigh. I love the man dearly, more than anyone else I've known but sometimes... have to remind him of his limitations which he feels is a weakness. He's stubborn and doesn't want to be perceived as being 'lazy' or a 'baby'. No matter the amount of reassuring and words from me he likely won't change but he's learning a little to take me at my word.
I was whining the other day about wanting to live somewhere that the water temperature stays consistent for my shower, it doesn't smell like incense/smoke/perfume/trash from other tenants, no inconsiderate neighbors calling and whistling for their obviously escaped small dog that barks at the smallest noise, other neighbors that fire off rockets or stay up until 4 am talking outside.... and living on the ground level. Too much to ask? The water temperature is the big thing really, nothing like taking a shower, temp was good, lean back to wet my hair and it suddenly goes hot/cold and by the time I react and step away it's changed back again. Get all lathered up and have to wait an extra minute or two as it spews boiling hot water down the drain and the handle is in the middle or to the cold side a little. Grrr.
Need to reconsider house designs as well in my dream list. I remember the water heater being in the garage when I was little and now it occurs to me we had a huge house and it must have taken forever for the hot water to get alllll the way to the master bedroom and the other bathroom. So having it closer to the middle of the house and maybe (now that it's been fifty some years) water heaters are more efficient systems that it wouldn't be so bad. I'm just leery of having a water heater in the middle of the house and it needing to be serviced or springing a leak.
Back to dreaming and maybe some practical money saving/earning things.
