So it's been about a year since my last eye appointment. I have different coverage now so it cost a bit more. Doctor says the cataract in my left eye has changed (I told her I could tell it was different), right eye is about the same. Surgery is not as critical since it's only one eye and it's up to me to decide when I feel surgery is necessary. Told her I'm still good for now but maybe not in a year.
As for the cost, it was about $20 last time with the excellent coverage from HD and I opted for the insurance. This time, I chose the coverage and got the best I could afford. Dialing down all the 'bells and whistles' of my last set, it still came to $145 out the door. Frames were essentially free, it's the lenses and appointment ($10 copay) that came to that much. Yah. So that eats into both rent for this month, but it was necessary.
Jon and I have been eating at home most of the time. We traded the soy protein burgers for actual meat burgers and have been fixing 'gourmet' hamburgers at home for the past week. We've got fish wedges, soup, salad fixings... we've got food, on 'payday' though, we splurge. I bought us sandwiches from our favorite shop yesterday and next week when Jon gets paid we get pizza.
That's how we splurge. It cost $57 to fill my gas tank at Costco, bought necessary paper goods and some food items. EBT money hasn't come in yet which is worrisome. Not even the initial $20 was put in at the beginning of the month and trying to get hold of anyone in that office is impossible. Literally. Same thing with SSA, still trying to get hold of them to try and get spouse benefits started. I was on hold for 36 minutes yesterday and just started another call right now. According to their recommendations, to call later in the week and later in the day so that's what I'm doing.
Issue is I go to the form to fill out for benefits and it autofills my info except for sex and whether I'm disabled or not, I click the appropriate boxes and it says that doesn't match the information they have on file for me and kicks me out. I thought maybe it was because I was using the .gov sign in instead of ID Me so I used that, same form with same info, same result. So I wait on the phone playing bad electronic hold music with the periodic break in of 'if all you need is general information you can do this online blah blah' message. No, I have a specific question about my benefits and whether/how I can get spouse benefits.
At least the weather is wonderful now! Perfectly clear, breezy and nice.
Okay, fish pieces for lunch today with a salad. But here's a picture of my breakfast, I made a sunflower!
