I got a money order yesterday to cover rent and fees and put it in the drop box, called the asst. manager to let him know it was there. Paid a little to SDGE and my credit card, everything else gets paid automatically and is done for this month.
We went to the local college to do the food donation pick up. Took about an hour, longer than it should have due to someone else's battery dying while they were waiting in line. We were thankfully in a parking structure so we weren't roasting. It was a good run this month compared to the last one, as veggies and fruit are seasonable. But was excited to see the first stop a guy bringing over a bag with three 1lb tubes of ground turkey. Thank goodness! I can work with that and was glad it wasn't the 20lb box of soy burgers. We got three large containers of strawberries, a few pounds of plums, huge bag of giant red potatoes, five large cucumbers and a box of mixed dry goods. Spaghetti, canned tomatoes, canned black beans, actual Campbell's chicken rice soup....
Have to get the step stool and rearrange the cupboard to see if we can fit those remaining cans in there. The Chef Boyardee pasta is going to the community table and will have to see about the quart box of 1% milk as well. We have no use for it, I don't even think Rocky will drink it but will have to wait until after the sun goes down because it's too hot right now.
So I'm pleased that our fridge and cupboards are full, the rent is paid, bills are paid, and all thanks to friends and family that were able to help. We would be packing up the apartment at this point and trying to arrange for a truck to move things back to storage right now if not for all of the help.
Oh, something that was very interesting is last month or the month before we got a notice that the rent was going up to $1000. When the new manager handed me the receipt for what was paid and what we owed, it said rent was $950 plus fees accrued after the 16th (which is still less than 1000). If she says it's 950 that's what I'm going on for next month as well. If that holds then it saves us $50 and we can just plan on having late fees going forward from this point. I had asked Wanda, the previous manager if the rent went up for everyone and she had said yes. So am wondering about that now because when we signed the agreement she said it was rent controlled so it would never go up.
Anyway, we have a bounty of food and the only thing we should need is milk, cereal and sodas in the next week or so. Maybe get a car wash, it looks like it's been well... sitting abandoned under a tree for months. Bird poop and a layer of dust you could write in. Maybe do that when we get money next month.
I am thankful there is a next month for us to be here.
