I finally broached the topic of a date with Jon. I've been hesitant since he's been content with just knowing we're together and plan on being together for a while. I was hoping to have it closer to August when Star Wars Celebration will be in Anaheim but it's going to be murderous hot by then. IF I manage to snag a pair of passes we have to plan that as our honeymoon anyway.
I found a county park north of me (near the Del Mar Racetrack actually) that is going to be just about perfect for what we need. A ceremony gazebo (there is an actual Victorian gazebo but we didn't like how it was positioned on a slope and would have to provide tables and chairs etc), there's plenty of picnic tables and benches, as well as a food prep area and barbecues. As well as a large green lawn area and an actual dressing room building marked for bride and groom!
The only downside is since it's a county park it costs $3 to park there for events. I'll be talking to the reservation office next week and having Amber and the kids come up and see it.
So, given the weather for this time of year I am going for a Tuesday in June (yes it's middle of the week) of next year. The reasoning is; less crowded than a weekend, the fair is closed on Tuesdays so less traffic on the freeway access and June is after school is out for the kids.
I've been doing a lot of research and now have to decide on a few other things. Like my dress, the invitation style... going to be Star Wars theme but low key. The gazebo area has enough seating for a small crowd, a low stage area with a wood backdrop and opposite that a slightly higher stage for video/photographers.
Lots of shade and trees as well, it's about as perfect and cheap as I can get.
I saw one venue online called BRICK..beautiful open industrial building with brick lined walls.. rental is for 24 hours and includes a boat load of things.... for about $14k. Gah!
So, picking my heart off the floor and stuffing it back in my chest...moving on.
So other than that... this is going to be quite a bit different than my first wedding. Jon says he'll wear his red vest and a white pirate/poet shirt and jeans. Lightsabers are going to be involved too and my outfit I'm hoping to make in the same style as Leia's outfit in Cloud City. Will see how that works out. Costumes will be encouraged but optional, casual picnic attire is fine.
We both need to lose some weight by then, I need to get my teeth fixed... need to find a place to live....
IF we are living in San Diego still it's even more convenient, but if
not we have a lot more planning to do and budgeting to figure out. My
credit score is slowly going up and that will help with finding a place
to live. Also plan on helping fund getting Kirsten and her three boys
out for the wedding as well as Devon. Then there's finding a place for all of them to stay..... geez. Lots to consider but we'll get through it.
Fate and Destiny brought us together, it was meant to be and we'll follow through somehow.
