It wasn't much really, would have been better if I was able to go someplace out of town. It didn't rain thankfully, just very windy and cold with sporadic cloud cover. It didn't get around to raining until after sunset.
I went downa nd visited a favorite yarn shop, talked with the owner about yarns and customers and did a little knitting. I almost bought a skein of baby alpaca yarn in cream. It was soooo soft! Believe me, if you've never felt alpaca, imagine the softest baby bunny or kitten fur in a yarn form.
I resisted, knowing that I needed to get gas in the car and buy some food. I would have only been able to make a scarf out of one skein (it was about $16 and worth every penny!) but oh what a scarf it would be!
I then got some Wienerschnitzel and went back to the beach to eat my burger and hot dog and fries. Of course, gulls showed up, but a smaller variety called a Heerman's Gull was predominant. I fumbled my fries and dropped a few and you know what happens then. It wasn't quite a scene from the birds, they didn't mob me, but there was about eight or ten hovering in the strong wind right over my head. I looked up and said, 'Just don't poop on me guys.' I finished my food, retrieved my camera, took a few shots of the birds and the waves, then went back to the car and ambled through Pacific Beach to Mission Beach. Made my way toward Point Loma, and stopped at the estuary to see who was hanging out there in the feathered variety. Got some distant shots of a group of pelicans on the far side of the river. When I first pulled onto the access road, they looked like a bunch of white trash bags (they were a good distance away) and I kept driving and found some other birds and an interesting little plant (native 'ice plant' that looks nothing like the ice plant everyone is familiar with). It wasn't until I was on my way back that I realized the 'white trash bags' were a flock of sleeping pelicans that were just waking up. My camera doesn't have that good a long focus so I got a shot but they're still way out there.
I then made my way up the freeway to one of the canyon parks and got some interesting shots of various signs of spring, tree bark and a few squirrels. At least a few of those shots I may be turning into photo cards. The native water willow trees were just starting to break out their flowers so I got some shots of those and the sycamores were popping orange leaf buds. The other shots I got were signs of how the water was running rivers on the wrong side of the park. It's hard to explain, but on one side you have the hills and the other is the river and the freeway beyond that. Everywhere are sycamores and scrub oaks. On the hill side of the park there was sign of a good flow of water that pushed rocks, twigs and oak leaves into some really pretty patterns. I got pictures, hopefully I'll be able to upload them soon.
The computer is still giving me the occasional 'Starter disk is getting full'. Last time I tried to upload some photos, it wouldn't let me. We have four people with separate accounts on this thing which means there are four copies of the basic programs in four different places...so that can explain why it's getting full.
I was looking at laptop prices on ebay today. A reasonably new macbook with intel was under $600 for the last bid. Not like I would be able to get it any time soon, but it's good to know there are some deals to be had on ebay. Amazon has some refurbished ones too but again, it's window shopping at this point. (almost a pun there...)
Anyway, it wasn't as relaxing a day as I had hoped, not a complete escape, and realized too late that I could have gone to Goodwill while I was down in that neck of the woods and seen if they had any shirts or socks I could get for cheap. Or anything else for under $20.
Missed opportunities...oh well.
Oh, no knitting class tonight either, it was pouring rain around 6 and when I called the store no one had showed up by a quarter after so I told them to call it cancelled.
I've borrowed a total of three hundred and forty dollars from the next paycheck, not including the 'service' charge of one percent for every twenty borrowed. That adds an additional thirty four dollars taken. Hopefully next paycheck I get my vacation pay added into it so that will help a bit... but then that will also eat up a chunk I was hoping to save. The remainder is going to end up going to rent most likely, and that's the end of my vacation pay. I'm going to try hard not to lose all of it to bills, as I am going to need it the first paycheck of next month to cover the weekend off at the end of this month.
Oh, I thought of something really witty and brilliant the other day and noted to myself to remember it..which I didn't. I should have written it down at the time...idiot. I'll have to ask my coworker if she remembers what it was.
Well, off for some mind candy to take care of the rest of the evening.
