So let me backtrack a little....
It was great seeing Bart the week before my birthday, Devon came down and due to it being so slow at the nursery they sent me home early. Went and had Mexican food where Bart discovered that 'rolled tacos' is just that instead of 'tj tacos' or mini tacos that he thought. We grew up calling rolled tacos 'taquitos' which, if you ask for them at a 'real' Mexican place they give you the small tacos. Onward...
Went back to my place where he bought a pair of earrings for Marie and I showed him my Second Life stuff then he had to leave so he could meet up with another friend back up in L.A. . He gave Devon a ride home so they got to hang out a little longer together. That night I got to go sit with the grandkids as well so it was a pretty cool weekend.
We all forgot to take pictures!
My birthday weekend was a hoot!
Saturday night my friends on SL threw me a party which I had to attend on Amber's computer but it was still fun. Got to watch the grandboys and Ava again which is not a bad thing and had fun as usual. I told Ava that we wouldn't be able to go to Disneyland but I would take her to Boomers the following weekend when I got paid. Welll... as it turned out I got some free mini golf passes and told Amber to meet us at Boomers on Sunday along with Devon and three other people that were coming.
According to Amber the conversation in the car went something like this:
Ava is yakking away about 'When we go to Boomers next Saturday we're going to ride the go karts about three times then go to lunch and come back and then play mini golf and... why are we pulling in here mom? Mom... what are you doing? Why are we here? Why are you parking at Boomers?..' Devon and I got there way early so he and I walked over to McDonalds to have lunch. By the time we were walking into the parking lot I saw her car parked next to mine and they had just gotten out of the car.
Ava of course was thrilled and surprised. It's kind of a tradition that we surprise her on or around her birthday like that. I was a shmuck and didn't call her on her actual birthday and still don't know when her party is this weekend.
So we figured out that we could only do mini golf as Ava had worn sandals and that's not allowed on the go karts. We had a blast anyway, Ava got at least one hole in one, I got three and Devon got two I think. Doesn't matter what the score was...
Yours Truly got 3 hole-in-ones... yeah baby!
How well do you think pro golfers do on a ritzy little mini golf course huh?
We stopped at the grocery store to pick up a cake and other food before heading back to my place. Ian helped with giving me a gift card to Vons for $20 and I found a cake that was perfect. Chocolate with whipped cream icing and strawberries on top.. very similar to the virtual cake that I had the night before. heee.
Sarah also gave me the windchimes that I had mooning over and telling everyone I wanted. Thanks to Denise (We have known Denise and Sarah since Amber and she met in middle school. I got Denise her job at the nursery not long after I started working there...so we go back a ways)
So the weather has been wacky, it rained the week before my birthday had perfect weather that weekend and progressively got cold enough to put extra blankets on my bed. Now... it's Santa Ana conditions in the 80's and 90's. Clear, hot and dry as it usually is around October. This is usually the time we end up having wildfires so everyone is a bit edgy and praying no idiot decides to repeat a disaster.
As a footnote,
RIP Steve Jobs.
I don't think any one man has revolutionized the home technology market more than he has. I saw the Time magazine issue with him on the cover and had to buy it. Two of my brothers, and countless other people I know all own Apple/Mac products. I remember using a mouse for the first time back in 1983 or 84 when I was pregnant with Kiri. There was a computer store not far from where we (husband Dave and I) lived at the time and we went to go check it out. I remember how awkward it was using my right hand for the mouse as I am left-handed. We bought one though and it was 'my' computer. I spent a lot of time playing low tech games, drawing and writing on the progression of Apple computers. I remember when the Lisa was announced, then the next one which I can't remember...the NeXt computers... (never got those as they were too 'techie' I think) anyway. When I couldn't afford a new one I bought a 'Hackintosh' at a Goodwill store for $300 that lasted a few years.
Okay so in closing...
