So we head back the way we came in, he's trying to follow the GPS directions we take a bridge, double back, take another, find a street, go another direction.... and finally down a frontage road and saw green lawn, pulled in and parked. Not the one that he was thinking of but it did for what we wanted. We had ended up at Herring's House Park on the Duwamish Waterway. (I had to actually look at my photo and then find it on Google Maps!)
Okay. Heave a big sigh and get out.
First thing I notice is the trees of course.
Trees |
Baby Doug Fir |
Big Leaf Maple |
I don't have a clue |
Douglas Fir that I've only seen as a cut tree, Maples with leaves as big as my head... a tree I didn't even recognize.. oh and a Robin!
Well this was a park that was dedicated to habitat restoration so there was a boat sculpture and some information signs about the fishing industry and the Indians that used the waterway.
There was a plum tree there with fruit rotting on the ground! In a park! With no one around! There wasn't any edible fruit unfortunately. I saw a few whole fruit but when I tried to pick them up, they were very overripe. Sadness.
It was low tide so the view of the waterway was less than spectacular.
That's looking North, you don't want to see the South view.. we'll just say it was disappointing compared to what was around us. Oh yeah, and more blackberries.
I had to use the bathroom badly and we saw some painters setting up for a picnic, and asked them. There wasn't any public restroom in the park but there was a Longhouse meeting place across the street that might be open. There it was, the Duwamish Tribe Longhouse, well lucky for me there was a very old lady who had just stopped in there on her birthday with a tiny yappy dog. She let me use the bathroom, and then gave us an earful of complaints about the painting group across the street.
We thanked her and told her happy birthday and left with the little dog yapping at us.
Okay, so not having a map of Seattle, the environs or anything else we might see.. we head out on the road and start going South to Steilacoom to take the ferry to Anderson Island and Miki.
And I guess I will start my next entry with our arrival there and the ferry ride across.
So much time so little to do!
Strike that, reverse it.. okay onward!
