Vacation Day 2 Part 3 and Part 1 of Day 3

Okay so after we rested a bit at the park, Devon consults his gps again and we head South toward Tacoma. By this time it is midday and we're enjoying the scenery as we tootle along the highway. Around Tacoma traffic starts getting heavy and Devon' short fuse comes out in spurts. He is not an offensive driver.. other than a few expletives, but given how much actual driving he's done he did extremely well.
I didn't think to pull out camera and take photos, we were on a freeway.. not much but city scape on my side of the car.
We finally get down to Steilacoom where the ferry landing is. Picturesque small town on the coast of Puget Sound. Train tracks run along the very edge of the land, and it appeared to be a major line running North.
The view from the dock South

Waiting in line for the ferry.

We missed the 3:10 ferry by minutes so had to wait for the 4:10. Time enough to get out and walk around, take some pictures and generally relax. In the second picture you can see two ferries but in fact only the one on the right is active. Not knowing how things worked, we followed the road and the cars onto the dock where we were stopped. He saw the little rental car sticker in the window and realized we were tourists. Told us to head back up the street and get in line. There are three lines of car lanes and we got there in time for the second line up. There is a small bait/liquor store to the right in the picture and we headed there for some water and snacks. Then sauntered around the water line, seeing it was low tide.
Rockweed (Fucus spiralis)
I didn't recognize this particular seaweed and thought it looked cool. After looking it up, I should have tried to look more around it for creatures.
A long freight train went by as we were down on the water line/beach so I took a video.

First ferry ride for both of us and frankly, it was kind of interesting and weird. I had to get out of the car because when the ferry started moving my brain was saying 'the car is moving but the engine is off'. A boat is a boat and a car is a car..
One of the islands.
The ride was very smooth, no choppiness at all nor on any other times we rode it. Didn't see much sea life other than a Fried Egg jellyfish, seems there are a lot of them in the Sound.
I have to go look up the names of the other islands for the other pictures. next time: Two sisters meet and we get to 4 Ewe Ranch finally!
