I have two videos in this post as well as a few pictures so patience for the loading time if you have a problem.
The whole adventure of going on this trip still has me in awe. Like most trips to someplace you've never been, it has a draw to it of the 'grass is greener' mentality. Now if I visited one of the states back East or Canada, I know better. It snows those places. Hard. For a long time. I don't do snow.
The unique quality of Puget Sound is it is surrounded by water, and given that situation the weather isn't as variable as other parts of the state. I'll keep monitoring the weather there through my connections and see if that is still the place I want to be when I retire.
Okay, on with the vacation.
So, we get to to Anderson Island.. I texted Miki what ferry we were arriving on and she was going to meet us there. I had no clue how to get to her house. So she said she had to move her car and was 'up the hill' somewhere. Well the parking lot for the ferry was 'up the hill' so we pulled in there but I didn't see her car. Messaged her back...now don't ask me why I was only texting when I could have called her... her last message said to stay put she was coming to us.
Devon parks the car and I watched for her.. finally saw her car coming as she pulled into the parking lot, Devon starts the car again thinking we're just going to follow her. Nope, I open my door and jump out of the car and he almost panics, 'What are you doing?!'
You see, I've known Miki for almost four years, only hearing her voice occasionally when we were on Second Life, and have helped her through so many trials and tribulations...I had to get out and give her a hug. Her dogs didn't understand either.
She said she was squealing like a little girl which got them all excited, we hugged and cried a little. I had wanted to day 'I see you' but I forgot in all the excitement. We just got back in the car and followed her to her house.
Picturesque farmhouse if I ever saw one. Again with the trees, all around, along the road.. surrounding her little plot of land.
The typical feeling of finally arriving at your destination, getting bags inside and taking in the scenery of our 'home' for the next four days was there.
It was the middle of summer so not much greenery on the ground, but that's okay. What I saw was an amazing accomplishment in itself. As a garden type person I saw such potential and not enough time to try and do anything. I did what I could. Which was be there and enjoy my wonderful vacation.
I believe that is Scout watching Devon walking off to explore, or go to the car. Not sure.
Her piece of property has been named the Four Ewe Ranch both figuratively and actually. She has four sheep (dwarf variety) a llama and about a dozen and a half chickens. The sheep names are Bonny, Bambi, Pixie and Claire. The llama... wait for it... is Dolly. Yes, she has a Dolly llama. Rather shy though so Devon got to work with her to get her used to people, he didn't cosey up to the chickens as much as the furry creatures.
Devon and Dolly the Llama |
Dolly would only let you pet her if she felt she was sneaking snacks out of the bucket so Miki coached him on how to hold it and he got to pet her several times. My son the 'llama whisperer' lol!
So, we settled in for the day, had small steaks on the grill that night with a wonderful fresh potato salad that involved no traditional mayonnaise. She used a honey mustard aioli, which I have yet to find anywhere in my usual stores. Will keep searching though, it's a yummy alternative!
Oh! When we got in the house and brought our bags in, I gave Miki my housewarming gift to her. A few years back, I got a beautiful windchime for my birthday then realized that I didn't have a place to hang it. I saved it just for her and we hung it lovingly on the front porch where the wind can catch it and fill the area with music. (Sorry for the sideways camera, I filmed it with my phone.. can only turn it that direction)
It was warm, not unlike being in San Diego, though less humidity surprisingly and she has a portable air conditioner yay! We settled down for the night after a wonderful dinner and desert... sigh.
Thus ends Day 2 of our adventure... so much work went into this and it was worth it!
