First, the weather for spring in this area is SO much different than San Diego. The weather right now is like our mid-winter but you know what, I am not complaining. Most of the time people go on vacation and gripe about it raining and it ruined their fun. We lucked out and most of the heavy rain happened when we were driving or in a building. Frankly, if you come to Washington this time of year and expect sunny cloudless skies, you are a bit delusional.
First, the car rental again didn't go as smoothly as planned, but Devon was able to pick whatever car he wanted to drive for an upgrade price.
When we were were at the counter, they have a book to show what cars are available, since I was watching the luggage, he got to flip through it and apparently had picked it out before I was called in for the money issue.
Black Dodge Charger. Like a Boss. I may be doing most of the blogging, but this is his vacation and his birthday is on Sunday so I let him choose the car.
So we check out of the hotel and after our initial 'damn it's cold!' go and look at the green area behind the hotel.
I took a video because the sound of the birds was amazing but leave it to say I only recognized one bird call. It was wonderful though, couldn't believe how green it could be and still be freezing!
We drove to the nearby Denny's for our customary vacation breakfast, then headed north to see the bridge troll.
I used to be a pretty good navigator, but with the advent of GPS, I suck. Getting through Seattle is like any other city, traffic, stupid people and confusing streets.
Oddly enough with all the fancy displays and everything, the car did not have GPS mapping. Kind of stupid for a rental not to pick up on that. Would have made navigating a lot easier.
The Fremont Bridge where the troll sits is massive and beautiful in it's own architectural way, wanted to get a shot of the bridge on approach but was using my phone for navigation.
There is no large parking lot there, it's at the base of the bridge in a residential area so I was in a hurry to take the picture of the other end. Didn't realize the reflection of the bridge above was on the hood of the car.
This is such a cool shot of Devon on the Troll. That is a VW in the troll's hand. I think that's a hubcap for his eye. He did get a picture of me leaning on the arm but frankly, this is a much better shot.
From there, we headed back south to see the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, which will be for my next post. We were driving south and all we could see of the sky was this big dark raincloud.
Me: 'That's a big raincloud.'
Devon: 'Yep'
Me: 'It's gonna dump on us real soon huh?'
Devon: 'Yep, probably'
Me: 'Bring it on.' This was the conversation Devon and I had on our way to the museum. Devon seems to feel that since we were the tourists, the natives who are used to that kind of weather shouldn't act all paranoid about water on the freeway. I had to remind him that is exactly why they are slowing down. Doesn't matter whether you're native or not, rain on the ground, slow down.
Hopefully pictures from Devon from the glass museum, if not, moving on to the EMP. Woohoo!
