Settling in to new routine

I've applied to EDD, got notice that I will have a phone interview on June 1. Can't apply for medical coverage until I know my income from that (and there is a minute chance I might be denied).

For the last week I have been sick with what I call spastic colon but it might be a bacterial bug. Two days of incredible discomfort and painful colon spasms, very little food, no appetite at all. Four days of no solids coming out, peeing was fine though painful muscle wise to sit on the toilet. Currently still uncomfortable but internals are slowly getting back to work. Get extremely fatigued after sitting on the toilet but I consider myself still sick and recovering. I have also been off cokes for that long and intend to stay off as long as possible. Lots of water, looking for a sweet type drink that isn't as sugary (no diet types), tried a La Croix and I will rename it Le Crap. It was 'Lime' flavored.. they waved half a lime over the batch and called it good.

I could do fruit juice  but that also involves a lot of sugar but if I get the natural popsicles or something like that it would be good. We have both agreed that the Costco water is the best tasting and cheapest by far. My taste buds are off for most everything I eat, but then that could be the hot corn on the cob I had the other night too. Eating a little healthier and less food out helps the budget stretch. Luckily Jon is still getting his unemployment and we have next month's rent covered at least. I told the apartment manager what happened and she was sympathetic but at least she is in the loop on any problems we may have down the road.

I'm looking at options other than going back to the standard workforce. Talib gave me an option of doing classes online but I looked at it and it doesn't really seem to fit what I would be able to teach. I'm a somewhat unstructured teacher. I've never learned how to be a teacher but have given one hour 'classes/lectures' on garden topics. That's not the same as coming up with a structured lesson plan and assignments.. for... beading? Plant ID? Not really something suitable for structure.

Speaking of, our complex has a small side yard area that is supposed to be a 'community garden' area that is completely run down. I'm going to start a garden blog and post my progress there but stray cats have used the far corner as a litter box, a giant jade plant is in another corner and a lone two foot high by three foot wide lemon tree/bush is the biggest thing that is thriving. No-one has really done anything there (but there are almost a dozen tomato cages) since most of the residents are elderly and about a third of them are shut ins or disabled. So with my copious amounts of spare time now maybe I can get permission to fix up the beds working with the guys that do the landscaping. Right now I can only do about fifteen or twenty minutes of actual work there in the morning but I suspect that will improve over time. Will post a link here when I get my other blog set up.

I found a car that should suit us perfectly. 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. Mileage performance is excellent, turns out the dealer had just acquired it and had not even gone to the mechanics for a check up (then why did you put it up for sale if it wasn't ready yet?). I told them I wouldn't have the money until the second week of June but it should cover the price of the car completely. Crossing fingers they stick with us. Still have to take it for a test drive and see how it handles compared to my current car. My CRV can turn on a dime compared to other cars and I love it! I did a stat comparison and the Escape has a similar wheel base and turn radius, good performance record and overall good marks for it's type. The car itself has had only one owner and is in excellent condition, no issues reported from CarFax. I am expecting maybe $400-600 for my car, lucky if they value it more than that. The dealer said if I take the Ford as is without them painting the roof he'll give a discount on it. I'm all for that as long as the roof isn't in too bad shape (who looks at the roof anyway? It also has a roof rack).

So... not much else happening. Oh I closed out another credit card account so that leaves one more to deal with. Closing an account doesn't look as good as settling and reopening but it would have cost more money up front and I didn't have that money ($650 to close and $1000 to close and reopen). In order to improve  my credit substantially is to open another card or get a car loan. Neither is on my docket if I don't have a job or regular income other than unemployment. Speaking of, still too young to apply for SS retirement for either of us and it wouldn't be enough to survive on anyway.

Jon and I are both vaccinated now, my second shot was nothing. No side effects at all compared to his. All my kids and family are done as well, oldest child is now going by Krys and looking at transitional therapy. My granddaughter formerly known as Ava is now going by Lo (Logan) and exploring options as well.

I'm old, I grew up knowing things were a certain way and was thrilled that my oldest was a girl and Amber's oldest was a girl. I love them still but it is a hard thing to wrap my head around. I will adjust and still love them as much.

I'm pooped. Eventful morning and afternoon...
