In other news.. I'm learning something new!

 At the prodding of my dear friend CJ I am taking classes in SL on learning Blender. It is a VERY steep learning curve but I intend to see it through despite today's emotional rollercoaster.

I have had an issue all my life with not reading directions completely. I will skim through and as a result will miss something crucial. Other times I can skim through and catch it all in my brain no problem. Not with programming and math.

I remember being in tears trying to figure out my math homework being helped by my brother. It was the same feeling all over again. Someone telling me 'you do this this and this and it should look like this'. Well having not looked at one of the videos and reading something else, the instructions simply said, 'Apply the operation and save'. Well.. I couldn't figure out what that meant. CJ even did the operation and saved it on Gyazo (second only to Dropbox for fantastic sharing software!) I was too frustrated to look at it and all this started yesterday. I was still in a funk today but when I got something to eat and distracted myself with something else I could go look at what she had done. I wouldn't say the lightbulb came on but it solved why it wasn't doing what it was supposed to.

I put an extra note in my instructions about explaining how to APPLY something and the instructor should have referenced how to do that. For those of us...that ... you know... gloss over beginner stuff.

This took me a week to figure out. It's not done yet and technically needs to be finished by Tuesday evening class. All of this is so I can not only make stuff for SL but just to do some graphics stuff. In theory this sort of object can be exported to a file that a 3D printer can read and make. So there's that at least.

There's all kinds of things you can do in Blender and I'm just at baby steps for doing objects. So tired right now and it sort of irks me that CJ kept saying, 'it'll get easier later on'. That doesn't help me now. OF course it will get easier in some cases but in other cases it won't. I'll run into another operation that totally confuses me but hopefully I will have learned from this experience adn remember to read all directions and look at all pictures.

And now for something completely different...a Larch...

::record scratch::

Masterpiece Theater just finished an absolutely fantastic version of Around the World In 80 Days. David Tenant was Phileas Fogg and I only caught it at the second episode but it was incredible! Very emotional and despite knowing how it would turn out it was still very suspenseful. It's not being repeated as yet but if you ever see it come up, watch it. Another one to add to a collection for sure. I never read the book but saw at least three other iterations of it as movies so this was a wonderful treat to have them be able to take their time and get much more done.

Anyway that's my excitement for this week. We have to figure out what to watch on your 'movie night' now.
