Better day today, got to have some fun.

The new ComiCon museum was finally open and today was the rotational 'free day for residents'. Yay! There isn't a whole lot of variety but I'm sure they'll get there.

Cardboard Heroes

Obligataory selfies

The selfie shot was taken in the gift shop. all of the items had to do with what they had on show and of course ComiCon museum merchandise. Denim jackets with a huge logo patch on the back but the arms were tucked in so I think the price tag was in there, we didn't bother looking.

The Cardboard Heroes display were all made by a pair of young boys (teenagers really) and I forgot to get a picture of the information about them. You can barely see the names on the cards in front of the smaller figures. These are all made from plain old cardboard from boxes.

Lego pictures

Then there's the entire back area that was allll Star Trek with a (real year) timeline on the floor and small metal model ships corresponding to the year it was introduced hanging over head. Then there was..the chair and had to get some good shots of Jon doing his best Kirk impression.

Fascinating.
Full ahead warp 5!

For whatever reason  my phone camera decided to just flake out taking those two pictures. Must have been the spotlights and my setting was on HDR. The background is just a flat photo backdrop.

There was a line up of five of Majel Barrett's costumes from TNG, I just liked the green one. There was also a full line up of cosplay outfits in the main lobby area I guess you could say which I didn't get a picture of unfortunately. We'll try and go back next time there's a fourth Tuesday so it'll be free. the upstairs gallery was all dedicated to Rocketeer art and comics and it's creator/artist who I can't remember now but Jon had met him before and said he was a prima donna artist.

So there's plenty of room for expansion there and if they ever put in Star Wars stuff, it would take up the entire building but it all depends. Since it's tied to ComiCon they will likely try and swap out displays and featured galleries based on what is featured for the convention this year. Very open space and unfortunately there was a group of five or six small Asian children that were there with I think only two adults who just let them run around for the most part. Very very annoying and stupid to bring kids that small to something they have absolutely no clue about nor interest in.

The last thing we saw was down in the 'basement' where there was a theater and this rather imposing and incredible statue.

It was an art challenge for one of the Batman anniversaries to portray Batman in just black and white.

"The Batman: Black and White series of statues from DC Direct, is a celebration of Batman as seen through the lens of different artists in just two colors - black and white."

The design of this one comes from the cover of Batman #423 drawn by Todd McFarlane for the 100th statue. It is life sized and was put on display for the 80th anniversary of Batman. It was auctioned off to raise funds for the opening of the museum.

So that was fun, it was blazing hot today compared to the last few days and we're supposed to get rain on the weekend. Sigh.

Supposedly California is deciding on whether to give out an $800 bonus for all tax payers and drivers to offset the cost of inflation and gas right now. Not sure if that's ever going to happen or when but if it does I have a choice. Sock it away somewhere that will make it grow exponentially or use it to pay rent or get my car tuned and up to snuff. Immediate need over future need, very difficult choice for sure. Jon is a tax payer but not a driver, so if he gets it as well we can make a decision to do both now and future investment.

That's the plan at least.
