WRONG!
Let me tell you how angry that made me.
If I had a home that was big enough all of it would be out of storage and be used. There's furniture, sewing and crafting supplies, things to display of our collections and tools that if we had the room we WOULD be using them. It's not like we're storing useless things that we're holding on to for 'someday' though sentimental reasons tie into it that isn't the majority of what's in there. My sewing machine and supplies, all my craft supplies, the sewing table, bookcases, Jon has tools and collections that are sentimental yes but they are a part of him and I promised only under dire circumstances would I ask to have him try to sell them.
We will not abandon either storage units despite the drain on our finances. It's not feasible and not within our ability to whittle down to reduce the cost.
So anyway, we're hanging on and hanging in there for the time being but I got the notice for my car registration that's due in January for $160 and then I'm behind on my electricity bill for over $900 due to how much we used over the summer and couldn't pay. Then there's my credit card bill that's over $400 but haven't used it at all and it was originally a $200 limit so everything on top of that is interest. We are going to be tight this month because of needing decongestant for Jon so he could breathe, cold weather triggered his asthma again.
I qualified for MediCal at least so that's in the chute for medical coverage and then next year we get the COLA boost to SS and qualify for MediCare. Jon will be sooner than I will but we're doing research at this point to see what the best coverages are out there for the least cost. Jon has an 'emergency' inhaler and ::knock on wood:: neither of us have illnesses or diseases that need constant medication other than that.
I got a random email from some low income senior complex that's being built in San Diego, not far from where we are. They wanted to know if I would sign up on their 'interest' list. I did some digging first. How much the proposed rent was the hardest thing to find then when I did I got excited...it was anywhere from $100-$800/month depending on income and the size of the unit. That was a projected cost, nothing solid because it hasn't been built yet. I thought 'SWEET!' totally affordable... looked at the 'amenities' and noticed 'some utilities' covered which likely meant water and possibly basic cable. Then it hit me... do they take pets... and.... no pets. Dangit! The neighborhood wasn't the best of course but we're keeping our eyes out for possibilities but the various news alerts are saying rent will be going up 'a lot' next year in San Diego. We're supposed to be locked in of course but so much for that when it went up $50.
I can't say things will be better next year but here's hoping that it improves a bit.
