More public transit adventures. Nothing heinous other than getting up at 4:30 am. It was still dark when we had to start the day, 66, overcast and cool so I put on my chambray denim overshirt (forgot I had it) so it worked out perfectly because by the time we got back home it was blazing hot at 86. Wasn't too warm in the apartment but since we just walked a block in the sun, AC and fans it was.
'Door to door' a little over 2 hours. Left the house just before 7 (wake up alarm was for 4:30...am) Bus was on time but we had a minor heart attack when Jon looked at the bus stop sign and there was a paper sign over it saying 'This stop temporarily removed'. My first thought was, the app would have said it was out of order when I was planning my route!'. Turns out it's for tomorrow and Wednesday....whew! Okay, no other hiccups, made all our connections, got to our destination just fine. Nearly 2 hour travel, one way, got some knitting done, Jon got a nap in and by the time we got to our bus transfer point to Lyft we both had to have a bio break. Luckily I knew that location very well and we walked to the Home Depot and took care of that. Timed the Lyft ride to arrive five minutes and good to go got to my appointment within the check in time a little after 9:15.
Doctor took a look at my drain and said that I'm still putting out a bit too much fluid so drain has to stay in for another week. Drat! Gave me a resupply for everything and a refill on the antibiotics, made an appointment for this Friday to check it again. Then next Tuesday they'll start filling the expander. Everything else looks okay but that's about it. I showed him the little blister and he noted it was a blister but that was all, no questions or suggestions on how to take care of it, just okay all good, see you next week. I dislike his bedside manner, not engaging at all.
Got the call from the special pharmacy about the Kisqualy and it was one of the most annoying calls with a supposed medical professional I have ever had. He seemed unsure of what he was talking about, sounded like he was checking my chart and 'ummm, uhhh, ahhh' every third word or so. I told him I wasn't sure about when I should take the two meds, now or in two weeks. That's getting delivered this Thursday and I need to get labs done for a base white cell count before I start those (I think?). See what this failing short term memory is doing? I told the pharmacist I should have had my phone on record to hear what she said. I was expecting the same kind of questions I got for pre-op and all that but no, this guy I just got a picture of some small guy with black rimmed glasses in a white lab coat squinting at a computer screen.
The one pill is taken 3 weeks on 1 week off, sounds familiar right? It's primarily to give my white cell count a rest not for hormonal reasons oddly enough. All of this means that between the weekly trips to Camberos, the 5 day a week sessions for radiation are at least covered with the 'internal' van service because it's local and the monthly blood draws for three months... which may be able to be done while I'm in that vicinity. Amber is going back to school and even if it is online it's still class work she has to do so she's out of the picture for rides. They just don't run up to Scripps Ranch and don't know if they run from where I am to my oncologist. Right now I have two almost back to back trips up to Scripps this Friday and next Tuesday. I have just a smidgen of money left for bus fares up and back this week, not so sure about next week. The ride from the transit station in Mira Mesa to the office is less than ten dollars each way. I have plenty of Lyft cash left for that.
I REALLY need my own transportation. This sucks.
So, that's my adventure for the day, nothing going on until the meds delivery on Thursday and appointment on Friday. Whew.
