Got a call from the initial surgeons office, Dr. I who went over the two visits that I needed before surgery.
One is the day before for pre-op at 9:30 for whatever they're going to do. The other was checking into the hospital, not the Outpatient Pavilion, at 9:00 for a 1pm surgery! hooboy. And to make sure (IMPERATIVE) to ask for the 'sentinel node injection' this is so important that if I don't get it, they can't do surgery.
It is a tracer shot that lights up my sentinel lymph nodes so they can find them and see if they're affected to take a biopsy at the time of surgery.
Obviously I am going to need someone to drive me to the hospital that Wednesday. I don't think I need one for Tuesday. I'm tempted to go buy a mini digital recorder to take with me and make sure I get all the information I need. Geez.. memory isn't what it used to be.
Or I just haven't had to deal with something this important to try and remember all the details.
So for those who have lost track, I'll have surgery at 1pm on Wednesday Sept. 15 at Sharp Memorial Hospital in Kearny Mesa with a 9 am check in. I'll likely have paperwork to fill out for insurance purposes, who to contact in case something goes wrong etc. and checking in my stuff. I'm not sure if it's going to be the actual Mary Burch Hospital or another wing. It should take about two or three hours, then they'll take me to a room for recovery and then stay there for a few days probably for observation and checking my various fluid intake and output.
Does it sound like I'm scared?
Think 'duck'. Calm on the surface and paddling like hell underneath. Or a clown... smiling on the outside..crying on the inside.
Or a silver glittery bouncy ball. ;)
I don't expect people to sit in the waiting room for three hours while I'm under, but it would be nice to know someone is there when I wake up. I can't imagine having Devon hang out in the hospital for three hours, but someone has to 'alert the media' when I'm done. Since I won't need a ride home that day, visits will commence as soon as allowed that evening.
I just realized that they completely remodeled that hospital... I might even have a private room! Niiice. Last time I had a hospital room I had to share it. Man that sucks. You have to put up with sharing the tv time and worrying about being too loud or keeping your light on.. I haven't watched regular tv in years.
I hope I'll be able to do knitting. Otherwise, it's going to be a very rough ride.
I'll be sure to bring one of my journal books to write at least and then transcribe the entries once I get home.
Okay, time for breakfast. 'Nuf said.
