I forgot to post yesterday, I think I need to set a reminder but at least I remembered this morning.
So, firstly it's difficult to type correctly and quickly early in the morning now with my arthritis cramping at least two major fingers. Best way to get them moving though is to move them with typing, slowly. I was toying with the idea of making a video log, but then would need video capability and not going there quite yet.
It is particularly difficult to keep up some of my crafts/hobbies as I've gotten older. I would love to do counted cross stitch again but my vision isn't what it was and again, my hands aren't as flexible. I also have other hobbies that are my interest right now. (As I look at the boxes and piles of yarn in my room and know there is more lurking in my closet.) I will be cleaning up those piles and finding a good home for most of it that I know I will never use so I can make room for the kitten I want to get this summer. You heard that right. I want a furball of my own and Katie says that getting a kitten is better for Thorin to adapt to than an adult cat.
There's a lot of crap I need to get rid of in this room. No it won't have to stay in my room all the time but I know what cats can do and the fewer temptation and hiding places the better.
I also discovered a possible reason why my knee was hurting so badly the past few weeks. I stopped drinking as much water when it got cold. The cold could have something to do with it too as now it's gotten warmer my joints aren't as stiff. I'm back to trying to get at least two 12 oz bottles of water a day and my joints aren't as bad. Duh! So, keep up on the water..check.
Now as to the sporadic creativity, I finally got my sewing machine out and oiled. For those in the immediate family, this is still mom's sewing machine from when we were little. Singer Golden Touch & Sew Model 630 and still have the sewing table for it too! That thing has had such a hard life but luckily most of it in storage. I oiled what I could, ran a few tests on it and it's humming along just fine now. Just looked on google images to make sure I had the model right and it's sad that someone is selling parts from one. My faithful machines cousin torn apart..disassembled..sold for it's bits and pieces. This is one of the last models that was gear driven, I was told by a sewing machine repair guy to hang on to it for that reason. I have for more reasons than that but it sealed it in my mind.
The reason I got it out was so I could try and get some costumes going again. Right now though, trying to convert some scraps of fabric into little Victorian style pouches to sell at conventions and online. I still have the cutting table but.. um.. it's our craft table right now. We've got some folding tables we can use for cutting because I do not sit on the floor anymore unless there is someone or something to help me up again.
Anyway, trying to sew, knit and do a few other things as well but this whole getting older thing just is cramping my creativity.
Though you couldn't tell by the big Chargers banner I made at the fabric store last week and the Olympic banner this week. Weird huh?
So, things change, other things stay the same. But not really. Do you know anything that has stayed the same in twenty years? (not counting mechanical things). I'm different for sure, we age, things wear out, time marches on whether we are looking at our watches or not. As Andy Rooney said one time, 'Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer to the end it gets the faster it goes.' I had it in my mind to do so much when I didn't have kids to take care of and now... that whole age thing is kind of cramping my style but you know, I never was one to follow the fashions when I was younger. Style and grace.. pfft!
