We are doing well. Jon now has a good doctor and is being scheduled for various tests to determine what underlying breathing problems he might have. Other than being on his twice a day inhaler his breathing and health is fine. I'm doing good as well, no lasting effects or problems, (other than getting older and less resilient).
We both filed our taxes early and I got both state and federal money already. I was able to pay back rent and current rent as well as stocking up on food. Hoping to make the remainder of the money last for a while and maybe even save some every month/week. We got in a bind with the rent way back when Jon's extra unemployment cut off last year then I had to pay for car registration and that set us back. We're all caught up now and hoping no more calamities happen for a few months. I think the extra money might have to go into getting a tune up for my car for sure. OR I can try to up my credit a bit and see about finding a newer car. Can't do much with only about $1000 extra though.
We aren't eligible for getting covid shots yet but Amber was able to get hers because she's a care giver. I got another call from corporate HR that asked me the same things the first guy did. I even told him that this was already done a month previous before I went back to work. He gave a non-committal answer and we finished up. Oh well, no harm in answering questions.
Still dreaming about moving to Washington state. I've found a few mobile homes for under $50k and good sized but without having a retirement income and still having to work, can't happen. I need to wait another four years before I get full retirement (or mostly full) and Jon tried to apply for this year but got some odd message about not using his EBT card and it disqualified him. That doesn't sound right so I'll be looking into that next week. This year I think is the year for me to get my finances in order and ready to maybe have better credit.
In the mundane category, there is a pair of hawks that have set up a nest in a Eucalyptus tree on the property behind our apartment. I hear them every morning calling and have seen them mating a few times. I located the nest even and hope they survive the current wet weather. We're hearing coyotes on clear warm nights, heard an owl a few weeks back too. So good to be closer to nature again. There's two different types of doves, a woodpecker, all the smaller birds... sigh.
I take Rocky for morning walkies on the property and he gets to eat some grass, smell the bushes, scratch and run up trees. Some of the other residents are fascinated that he can walk on a leash, cats generally are not leash/harness trained but I started him early. He's slipped out the door a few times but since it's his habit to go to the lawn area I just follow him out and scoop him up when he stops to much some grass. Have had to tell a few that indoor cats don't poop outside.
Kids seem to be doing good, did a video chat with Kiri.... now Krys for her birthday. Love my kids to the moon but seeing her all grown up and so different looking is disarming. She is identifying as asexual/bi? Not quite sure but whatever she wants to do and it makes her happy I'm good. Love is love, not having any problems with that. Just adjusting to lifestyle changes is just that.
I keep pining for having a room to do crafting, a place big enough that the kitchen isn't in the same room as the tv, a patio or porch for Rocky to camp out on (and we can banish him to when needed). A man cave for Jon's Elvis stuff, and rooms enough to scatter all our collected Star Wars/geek collections. Sigh.
Some day.
