As per Jon's new doctor, due to his bad cholesterol being WAY too high (over 200!) now is the time for us to both get healthy. I suspect mine is not so good either, have to find a new doctor that I like. Last one pushed her own diet agenda without addressing my age or activity level.
Looking at lists of foods for a healthy cholesterol diet we can do most of it. Just having to 'eat this not that' and portion control. Dr. suggested since sodas were big in his diet if he has one with lunch then can't have one the next day and so on. He also went for a walk as well, he hasn't done any exercise other than our stairs when he gets the mail or does laundry. I'm mostly active at work and if I combine that with walking two days a week with Jon I should be good.
I have started limiting my soda to one a day and having water the rest of the day. Last two days I've slept better at least and today we spent $148 on groceries. Yeah. Had to go to Vons instead of Target or Walmart due to needing so many fresh veggies and fruit. At this point in our life we are late to the game but hoping this will help us last a bit longer. Eating healthy sounds good for the people that can afford a kitchen full of fresh food. This is not cheap eating which is why we were defaulting to ready made food.
We usually go to the sandwich shop today and I told Jon instead of a footlong, get a 6 inch and then have some apple to go along with it instead of chips or a soda. Well, he had two small apples with the sandwich and we both had water. It's a start at least. We have two pre seasoned salmon fillets left and those will be for dinner tonight along with some veggies and maybe some dove dark chocolate and fruit for dessert.
We will see how long we can sustain this sort of diet. Jon was told he got an EBT card for food but never saw it. Getting any sort of action from the county at this point is useless so we will manage our new food budget how we can.
Jon got his first Covid shot last week, my kids have all gotten theirs and yet I can't find a location that has appointments open. I'm the last one to get vaccinated of the family it seems. If not for Jon's doctor making the appointment, he would be in the same situation as I am.
My dream is to have both of us down to a reasonable weight, get my teeth fixed and then get married the way we planned. Or go to Disneyland next year... we will see.
