EDD came through, yay!

So was able to certify for benefits this week and I have money, yay! Bad news: I have to wait for new benefits card as my old one expired last year. I also got a phone interview for CalFresh (food benefits) this morning and if they need any other info they'll contact me. Ohhhkay. Apparently they had information from the last time I applied..... almost ten years ago when Devon was still living with me. Sigh.

Still waiting for my box of items from my locker. One more day and I'll call them to say I'm coming up there to get them personally. If she can delegate someone else to clean out my locker and apron...give the damn box to someone else to mail!

Anyway.... having fun doing a garden blog, taking lots of pictures of Rocky...

Why is he so cute?

Why?

Why? So we don't chuck him out the window when he's a pest.

Anyway... other than that not much else is going on. There's nothing on the job market right now for my set of skills. Nothing at all in  my area even in the county. I even look at other retail jobs and my shoulders get tight and my jaw clenches so..mentally not going there. I looked into teaching online and it isn't geared for what I would be capable of teaching. Hence the garden blog to go at my own pace and dispense my knowledge casually peppered with anecdotal stories.

I will be getting my 'retirement' money (aka 401k disbursement) sometime this week which puts me in a dilemma of reporting it to EDD or not. Between that and the money I have already, we're golden for at least two months ore more even if I get the car fixed. If we choose to get a new car that eats up the large chunk of money. We will see what happens. Jon is still getting his unemployment so financially we're doing okay.

It was one year ago today that we signed the rental for our apartment. We've been here a year... one down and how many to go? Hopefully be able to make it through another year and maybe another after that but I'd still like to move someplace cooler/bigger/on the ground floor.

Oh I just got a jury summons today too. First one in seems like decades. I hate jury duty but luckily they've got it streamlined so you're on phone standby for five days and that doesn't start for two weeks. It's for the local courthouse not far from where I live luckily so not federal court. Sigh, I have no excuses this time. I'm not working, drawing unemployment and don't have any dependents to take care of.

Something amusing/ironic/odd that I noticed on the excuses for getting out of jury duty.

I AM NOT A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES

(Then...how come you got a jury summons? Random selection and the computer don't care?)

I DO NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

(So who is reading this to you????)

I am currently in jail (and also) I have been convicted of a felony and am on probation.....

(So felons can't vote but can be on jury selection??? That doesn't make sense)

Just some Robin Williams/George Carlin thoughts is all on those. And using caps and no caps on those is exactly as they are on the summons. So not as important if you are a felon as much as if you aren't a citizen?

Okay that's it for now... more info as they happen.
