I finally was able to get hold of the manager that called me from Lowes and got details on what the job entails. I have an interview on Monday at 11:15. Apparently they get their lunch at 10am and he was enthusiastic about me having not only plant experience but 3 years 'big box store' experience. He said he had worked for HD for 11 years so we'll have that in common which is a plus for me.
I suspected I knew what it entailed but he gave me confirmation. The job is mostly M-F with an occasional Saturday depending on how busy they are and is only for arranging and caring for the exterior plants on their MST (Merchandise ServiceTeam. HD has MET Merch. Execution Team) This means dealing only with the outside plants and interacting with customers occasionally. Basically what I have wanted to do at HD but got stuck inside. From what I gathered but not what he said directly was there are strictly plant people and then the other merchandisers. He said I will only be involved in the outdoor plants not indoor. Hallelujah! I know about house plants but that is a separate vendor apparently that takes care of that only.
So the downside is, the shift is 5 am-2pm, good side, the store as I clocked it today is only 15 minutes from where I live with traffic maybe 10 minutes. Downside it is a 5 am shift which means I have to get up at 3 am. Yeeesh! I haven't ever had to get up that early in the morning EVER. Not even for surgery or vacation maybe to nurse babies but that's about it (and I was able to mostly go back to bed with the baby).
So that's the big news, interview on Monday. I suspect if they hire me it will be the following week pending drug tests and such. That is if they hire me, which there is a high chance of since they only have one person doing that job right now and he sounded not quite desperate to get someone else. 5-2 means a 1 hour lunch, which is nice and if needed could come home for food and go back but there's plenty of food places around there and I plan on packing lunch as much as possible.
If I can stick it out for three and a half years, 3 Long years of early wake up going through winter that early, I can officially retire. It seems so long but 3 years went by quickly at HD so will see. I am also starting out full time at this job and I suspect at least $15/hour plus benefits maybe? Jumping ahead here I know but it is such a high chance to get hired it's hard not to jump ahead.
As I am writing this am making plans for tomorrow with Amber. Ava aka Logan, is going to be hanging out with friends because one friend's parents are out of town so she wanted to make sure they weren't alone on the 4th. Love that kid!
Jon is depressed again because we tried to get a copy of his birth certificate but the fee was returned and he's supposed to get an email explaining why. If we know why, then we can fix the error and do it again. He feels like it was a final thing but tried to tell him we'll just do it again, it wasn't that expensive and make sure we do it right this time. Not a big deal for me but he's really anxious to get it now.
We will fix as he says.
