An old friend from AOL chat room days and Babylon 5 fan was doing a panel at the con so contacted me and wanted to know if I wanted passes. I said yes, two please? It's a 'Special Edition' in other words, off season and very much scaled down from the last time I went. No big media at all. Lots and lots of small sellers, more artists than I remember. The most common items being sold are pins, stickers and patches. Just about every both had pins or stickers of some sort. Not a lot of cosplayers today but then it's Friday and technically first day. On a normal con weekend this would be considered a Thursday crowd. There were many a thing that we oohed and ahhed over but we are broker than broke unless we spent some rent money.

SD ComiCon first time in five or six years
People were being people and fans so it was normal in that manner. No one unruly or rude so with the smaller crowd it was easy to move around. There were a number of empty tables and I can hope that they would only be there for Saturday/Sunday. Autographs appeared to be set up for the main convention floor at one end but didn't see anyone. Didn't get up to the sails pavilion or any of the panels.
One young man as we walked by said 'oh yah this is small, you can see from this wall' turns the other way, 'and the other wall all the way down there' If you've never seen the SD Convention Center it's almost a 1/4 mile long end to end, the inside exhibit hall is a little smaller than that but still very very long distance.
Our passes are good for the whole weekend so we are going to likely return tomorrow despite not having any money. There may be more celebrities or something to see tomorrow and Jon is so much like a kid and at the same time wise 'old timer' from his comic shop days.
We have just enough money for rent and not much else. So it's going to be interesting paying bills this coming month.
I hope EDD changes their mind and sends me a notice this sunday or next.
Or we decide to try the lottery and win.
A lot of the things we saw were wall art or collectibles that would need to be put in a case. Neither of which we have space for. So it's all drool and 'thank you very much' and walk away.
Tired feet but satisfied.
