It is mid summer and we are going on day five of running the AC during the day and at least two fans at night in the bedroom. Getting into the low 90's with little air flow so we button up and run fans and AC to try and get it down to comfortable during the day. I had a picture of my set up but looks like I deleted it.
Since I can't do jewelry or knitting because that takes money and time to make money (like so many things and I have ralized I am lazy/unmotivated sufficiently) I decided to go back to writing. I pulled out the fantasy novel I've been poking at for over ten years and am going through editing phase number whatever. I asked a published author one time is it normal to completely change what you've written when you edit it? He said he would be worried if you didn't, that means it needed work in the first place.
So the good thing is, I have the first chapter nailed, I have scenes here and there nailed, second chapter is being poked at and will go through the entire thing again because the middle part is where it gets muddled. Here's what that is leading to:
I know of a few artists/authors that I follow that have Patreon accounts (I don't follow them there, I wait for the content to be released publicly) that earns them a nice small side income from posting their works or whatever that people have paid a few dollars to see before everyone else. I am thinking of doing that for my book. First I need to get a following that wants to see what I'm writing. That's the hard part. I remember the idea that my brother gave me of creating a QR code (I wish I had remembered this before comicon because I would have been handing it out as I walked around) that people would scan and be taken to the site where I'm posting my book. I can still do that but I would need to target comic book stores and other places. Minimal money involved on my part if I do home printing. Patreon members that would follow me would get the code to open the latest chapter before the weekly drop but it would still be on a weekly basis.
I would be posting other content connected to the book, how i came up with an idea, what the characters are based on, pictures of characters and items that I've done so it isn't just chapter of the week.
Currently I am writing it on blogger so it would have to be arranged differently to isolate the latest post. Also comments, contributions, ideas submitted by followers would get mentions and possibly a character named after them (within reason, if someone named John is worth a mention I would adjust the name much like Lucas did for Star Wars cameos).
Here is the teaser 'back cover' scene to spark interest:
"We are told that talent creates its own opportunities. But it
sometime seems that intense desire creates not only its own
opportunities but its own talents."
Ardenai Sayornis of Taizech
"Tsuli...." a voice breathed her name, full of a deep resonance that filled her mind.
She
was in a large open valley with cliffs surrounding on all sides, there
was a dream like appearance to the textures of the rock and the grass.
It looked like it was a real place but it felt as if she couldn’t touch
anything.
There was something else, she was dressed in a brown
leather corselet over a flowing green dress. A short knife hung from a
belt around her waist and a leather bracer was laced on her right
forearm covering the sleeve. The bracelet on her left wrist was now
glowing as if fiery hot but had no heat. The red brown 'Dragon Eye'
stone seemed almost alive looking back at her.
A movement and sound
from behind startled her and she turned quickly expecting an attack.
Instead, she saw two dragons facing each other tense and flaring wings.
One golden yellow, the other black as onyx. The black dragon was larger
and more substantial than the smaller gold, Tsuli found herself drawn to
the pair knowing that they had something to do with Buran. There was
something not right about the gold dragon, its form blurred every moment
or so, and as she watched, it twisted its neck around as if it were a
sword attacking the other dragon.
Who is Buran? why are there dragons? What is this dream she's in? Nothing like coming in on the middle of a story right?
Let me know what you think. Since I'm going to be sitting at my desk all day, might as well try and do something productive.
