All gone no more rain.

It was nice while it lasted but it was back to regular summer the following week with even more humidity due to the rain. Bleh. The nights are getting cooler though so definitely a sign of the seasons changing. We managed to just keep the fans going today because there was a gusty wind that blew through the apartment once in a while and it kept the internal temps comfortable.

Seems to be pairs of things this time. I successfully grew two cucumbers in my garden with a few more on the way. Cooked some chicken thighs that were absolutely tasty (sorry for the dark picture, I deleted it off my phone so can't adjust the lighting) and I knitted a pair of short socks for myself! I will be getting more yarn from the same friend that gave me that yarn so will likely be knitting my own socks for a while. Using the leftovers of the yarn to go toe up knitting on a second pair. Will likely run out but hopefully by then I'll have that spare yarn and do some funky colors on top.

The money struggles continue, trying to figure out Medicare and trying not to get my measly check dinged for the $168 for part B coverage. MediCal sent me a notice saying that since I am getting Medicare and that covers prescription drugs they won't be covering that. There's a loophole for that and at this time I am lucky I am not dependent on anything for my health.  Medicare for mostly healthy people is really a joke. None of it covers standard doctor visits, none of it covers dental or eye health so it's kind of like pet insurance and is only good for emergencies and even that is not completely covered.

A small bit of good news is a cost of living bump came through for EBT food money and it's going to go up to $55 a month in October. Whoooo! Wow.... yah...yay yippee. Gee, that's an extra $32 a month for food. Almost all the food pantry events have dried up now. Anything that might have canned goods and stable pantry things is a bit of a drive and not worth the gas. The food drop off at the complex here is still going as far as we can tell so will have to sign up for that. Every little bit helps except when the little bit is questionable frozen chicken and severely bruised fruits and veggies. Sometimes feel like trash pickers. About half the people in the complex are signed up for that food and it's really sad.

School has started so that eats up a tank of gas every two weeks. Amber is giving me $60 a month for gas because that's all she can afford and once I get paid we can manage getting the tank filled sufficiently. I managed to have a tank of gas last for a month over the summer. Right now riding on a half tank because I needed some of that money to get a few groceries. Like... you know, meat. Luckily Food4Less/Kroger has leg thighs cheap so a pack of ten and it'll coast us to next weekend when I get money. Even then I have to be careful and budget what I use out of my money and Jon's for food.

So that's all there is, just a small update. not much else has changed. Keeping a roof over our heads and some food on the table. Just wish for more is all. I've said it a few times before, if we had our own home with an extra room or two and a garage or outside storage, we would be saving $500 a month and be able to live comfortably.

Sigh.
